La Picosa, located at 5365 Spring Valley Rd in Dallas, TX, is a hidden gem in the world of authentic Mexican cuisine. Consistently praised for its delightful offerings, this restaurant stands out, especially for its carnitas, which one visitor hailed as the best they’ve encountered across two countries. For taco enthusiasts, the lengua taco is a must-try, celebrated for its robust flavor and tender texture. La Picosa operates on a cash-only basis, which some diners note adds to its authentic charm. The staff are exceptionally friendly, making even those with limited Spanish feel welcome and accommodated. Many customers recommend starting the day with their menudo, which has surprised first-timers with its rich and satisfying flavor profile. Reviews echo a common theme—La Picosa delivers food that is unapologetically genuine, devoid of the Tex-Mex influence that's prevalent in many other establishments. Guests leave satisfied, often returning for the memorable flavors that create not just a meal but an experience. If you're in the area and craving true Mexican fare, La Picosa is a destination you won’t want to miss.

My go to Taco spot. Carnitas are the best I have ever tasted in two countries. Cash only.

Awesome authentic Mexican food. Highly recommend any of the tacos; lengua are phenomenal though. Staff is super friendly and accommodating to those with zero Spanish voacab. If you’re in the area in the morning, definitely try the menudo. First time experimenting with the dish and I was beyond pleased.

ONLY CASH. Translation: This food is fricken legit and amazing. Ordering can be a bit of a challenge sometimes if you aren't fluent in Spanish but if you're kind and try to use some Spanish they'll do the same with English. My girlfriend and I have a gone a few times and my Spanish vocabulary is growing with each visit! I 100% recommend this place to anyone craving Mexican food , this is not Tex-Mex by any means!

Waitresses were super nice and they made sure that everything was okay. Food tasted great; it felt like heaven in my mouth. I’m not a Dallas local, but I’d drive hours to come back here!

I've been here three times and had three amazing dishes. The cuisine here is what I would call "real Mexican"– it's not Tex-Mex, nor is it some chef's hip modern take on Mexican that's adapted for American palettes to the point that it loses its Mexican-ness. Instead, it's an honest plate that tastes like something you'd eat if you were in a Mexican home in Hidalgo. Note for my fellow Americanos: there's a picture menu above the register. Use that if you don't feel comfortable ordering in Spanish or you've been slacking on your Duolingo.
